Grizzly Hiawassee Accident Reminds Us How Critical Uninsured Motorist Coverage Is | Orlando Accident Attorney

When I saw this video from Orlando’s Fox 35 News, I knew I needed to share it on this blog. FOX 35 News Orlando There is no doubt that when the driver of the green 2001 Ford turned on to Hiawassee Road and began heading north, the driver had no idea that there would be stolen car careening southbound on Hiawassee Road, barely under control.  The head-on collision that happened next, at the corner of Hiawassee Road and Clarcona-Ocoee Road, will likely change the Ford driver’s life forever. The damage to the cars depicted in the video is obvious.  The driver of the Ford was airlifted to Orlando Health Hospital with very serious injuries. The driver who caused the accident in the stolen Buick — is a teenager.  Because the vehicle was stolen, it is almost a certainty that there will be no liability insurance that will apply to this accident in order to satisfy the Ford driver’s damages — which will undoubtedly include thousands and thousands of dollars in medical expenses. As an Orlando accident attorney, this case highlights to me the importance of carrying Uninsured Motorist benefits as part of an auto insurance package.  If the driver of the Ford carried Uninsured Motorist coverage, that coverage will “step into the shoes” of the teenage who caused this wreck, and will provide benefits to the injured Ford driver for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Without Uninsured Motorist coverage, the driver of the Ford will likely recover nothing.  This is why we constantly urge people to make sure they buy Uninsured Motorist coverage, and buy as much as they can afford.  In today’s world, you just never know when an irresponsible person is going to do something to put you at risk. If you have any questions about Florida Uninsured Motorist coverage, or whether you have a legitimate Uninsured Motorist claim, call Winter Park personal injury attorneys Kim Cullen and Robert Hemphill.  Consultations are always 100% free-of-charge.  Or, order a FREE copy of Kim’s book, Asleep At The Wheel:  13 Mistakes the Insurance Company Desperately Hopes You’ll Make After Your Florida Car Accident by clicking here....

Family of Woman Killed In Crash With Stolen Vehicle Will Need To Know About UM

A tragedy occurred on White Street in Daytona Beach this past Saturday night. According to a story on WFTV.com, 27-year-old Laguadia Terry was killed when the vehicle she was travelling in on White Street was impacted by a stolen vehicle. The driver of the vehicle Ms. Terry was riding in, Sterling Slaton, was also seriously injured. As an Orlando accident attorney who regularly helps families with wrongful death claims, my heart goes out to Ms. Terry’s family. The death of a 27-year-old woman is tragic under any circumstances, but in this instance the men who caused this accident had apparently stolen the car, and then fled the scene. These men have not yet been brought to justice. Ms. Terry’s survivors would be well-served to consult with an experienced Central Florida car accident attorney. Even though the vehicle that crashed into Ms. Terry’s vehicle was stolen, damages might be recoverable from the Uninsured Motorist portion of a Florida automobile insurance policy. UM benefits might be available from Ms. Terry’s own coverage, from the insurance carried by Mr. Slaton, or from any resident that Ms. Terry was living with at the time of the crash. An experienced Florida auto accident lawyer will know the right questions to ask in order to determine if there is Uninsured Motorist coverage available. Any reputable personal injury firm will answer Ms. Terry’s family’s questions and perform an initial consultation absolutely...

Both Drivers Might Be Liable In Volusia Road Fight That Killed Boy

Posted by on Feb 14, 2013 in Motor vehicle accidents

WFTV.com has reported an extremely tragic story about a 5-year old boy in Deltona who was killed when a car left a local roadway and struck him at a bus stop on Normandy Boulevard. Apparently, two vehicles – a gold car and a green pickup truck – were travelling down Normandy Boulevard and engaged in some kind of fight or argument as they drove down the road.  According to eyewitnesses, occupants of the two vehicles were throwing things back and forth at each other and weaving through traffic. The driver of the gold car was the last to throw an object – just before he lost control of his car, jumped the curb, and hit a bus stop bench where 5-year old Luis Ortiz and his family were sitting. The worst part of the story is that the drivers of both the green pickup and of the gold car saw what happened, but left the scene while the little boy lay there dying. The extreme cowardice displayed by both of these driver is almost beyond belief. Police are looking for both vehicles and their drivers. If these drivers can be found, they will each likely be charged with very serious crimes. As a Winter Park accident attorney, I know that if these drivers can be identified, BOTH drivers can probably be held liable for money damages related to the child’s death, even though the green pickup didn’t hit the boy. In fact, I think both drivers could potentially face punitive damages for their actions. As an additional note, if boy’s parents carried Uninsured Motorist coverage on their auto insurance policy, they could utilize these benefits even if neither of the vehicle drivers is ever identified. We will certainly be keeping Luis Ortiz, and his family, in our...
