A child was interviewed in a Deltona neighborhood where two men were violently attacked by a dog, and his first comment was, “The dog has always been good to me…” Unfortunately, this type of testimony is not unusual in our experience as Orlando dog bite attorneys. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel, two men from Radcliffe Street in Deltona are nursing significant wounds, and one of the men is mending a broken arm after being attacked by a Labrador-mix named Soko. One of the men said he was working on his vehicle when he heard his neighbor screaming for help. He ran over and found the first man being attacked on his face, arms, and stomach by the dog. When the second man intervened, the dog attacked him, too. People in the neighborhood said they thought the dog was nice. Under Florida law, a dog owner is responsible for any injuries caused by the dog, regardless of whether the dog was thought to be nice, or had no history of hurting other people. The concept is known as strict liability. The only exceptions to this rule are if the victim is trespassing, the owner has posted a sign warning of a dog on the premises, or if the dog was provoked.
